master thesisTeaching in Between: A Feminist Pedagogical Approach to Graphic Design Education in Vietnam.
ABSTRACT
This project examines integrating feminist pedagogy into undergraduate graphic design education at British University Vietnam, using an intersectional feminist lens and Patricia Hill Collins' matrix of domination to problematise existing non-feminist practices.
Through action research, the researcher designed and documented three workshops with two student groups, applying a five-principle framework (mastery, voice, authority, positionality and care) developed from feminist pedagogy literature.
Findings from auto-ethnographic notes, questionnaires and focus groups suggest this approach enhances student engagement, emotional support and holistic learning, while also revealing the challenges of implementation for a young, female Vietnamese teaching assistant navigating institutional power dynamics.
